Ingredients:
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- For the frosting:
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 5 tablespoons whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring optional
- Sprinkles or decorations optional
Instructions:
Turn on your oven and heat it up to 375F 190C
Mix the flour, baking soda, and baking powder together in a medium-sized bowl using a whisk
Softened butter and sugar should be mixed together in a large bowl until the mixture is smooth
Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract and beat until everything is well mixed
Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients one at a time until dough forms
Split the dough in half and use plastic wrap to protect each half
Put the dough in the fridge for at least an hour to cool it down
Spread the chilled dough out on a lightly floured surface until it's about 1/4 inch thick
Cut out shapes with cookie cutters and put them on a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper
For 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden, bake the cookies
After taking the cookies out of the oven, let them cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet
Then, move them to a wire rack to cool all the way down
For the frosting, beat the butter until it is smooth and creamy
Mix in the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract one tablespoon at a time until the mixture is smooth and easy to spread
You can change the color of the frosting by adding food coloring if you want to
Once the cookies are completely cool, frost them with frosting
You can use a butter knife or a piping bag for more complicated designs
If you want, you can add sprinkles or other decorations to the frosted cookies
Before you serve and enjoy your homemade sugar cookies, let the frosting set
